The league was developed due to the demand for summer
collegiate teams in NC. The league helps each player develop and showcase their
abilities in front of scouts and gives NC residents a change to stay in the state
during the summer. There are currently 11 teams in the Old North State Baseball
League and the league is trying to expand to 14 teams. On February 22nd the
Parks and Recreation Advisory Board unanimously recommended that staff move
forward with putting together a contract with the Old North State Baseball League to
present for approval by the Board of Commissioners. The request is for Old North
State to use the County facility at Tramway Park. It is a 60 day league and they will
pay $6,000 for the season. Commissioner Mark Lovick asked about the sharing of
the concessions with other programs.
