I' C <br /> if C <br /> LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> JOINT MEETING WITH THE BOARD OF EDUCATION <br /> EXHIBITION HALL <br /> DENNIS WICKER CIVIC CENTER <br /> 1801 NASH STREET <br /> SANFORD, NC 27330 <br /> February 15, 2021 <br /> MINUTES <br /> Roll Call <br /> Present: Arianna Lavallee, Dr. Andre Knecht, Robert Reives, Cameron Sharpe, Kirk Smith, <br /> Bill Carver, Mark Lovick <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> Chairman Kirk Smith called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and led the Boards in the <br /> Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> DISCUSSION ITEMS <br /> Briefing from the Superintendent Regarding School Since COVID-19 <br /> Chairman Kirk Smith stated that the Superintendent was asked to put together a presentation <br /> about school since COVID-19. Superintendent Dr. Andy Bryan provided detailed information. <br /> During the last 11 months the task has been about redesigning the school district in light of <br /> the COVID pandemic. Initially, the Governor closed in-person learning through June 2020. <br /> The schools had to make alterations to continue to serve students. The crisis team made up <br /> of major departments in the school district met to come up with a plan. After the Governor's <br /> decision to suspend in-person learning in March, the crisis team, administrators and <br /> educators in the district started finalizing a plan to support the students and their education. <br /> Safety of students and staff, communication, structural redesign, technology access and <br /> connectivity, food distribution, distribution of other materials, and other changes in regulations <br /> were issues that had to be addressed going through the spring semester. Online support for <br /> students was provided along with distribution plans for technology. Connectivity is the basis <br /> for anything online. Many studnets had connectivity but some did not.
