VI. OLD BUSINESS
VI.A Triangle Trails Initiative
Chair Dalrymple led the discussion regarding the Triangle Trails Initiative which
has an intended goal to plan, build, use, and promote the extensive network of
greenways and trails found throughout the 14 county initiative region. Chair
Dalrymple asked for consideration of support for the Triangle Trails Initiative by
adoption of a Resolution. Commissioner Smith stated there is also a water
component. He added that this is a quality of life issue that is meant to encourage
physical activity.
OnePage2.pdf
TTIResolution - Draft
Johnston.pdf
HarnettCounty.pdf
County Status.pdf
Motion: Motion to adopt Resolution of Lee County, North Carolina
supporting the formation of the Triangle Trails Initiative.
Mover: Kirk Smith
For: 6 - Amy Dalrymple, Arianna Del Palazzo, Dr. Andre Knecht, Robert Reives,
Cameron Sharpe, Kirk Smith
Absent: 1 - Kevin Dodson
Motion Result: Passed
VI.B Beaver Management Program Discussion
County Manager John Crumpton stated that the USDA is requesting a needed
increase in the fee to cover the expenses associated with the Beaver Management
Program. The current budgeted amount does not cover the cost to provide the
services in Lee County. The USDA requested an increase to $20,000. If the County
does not increase the allocation, individual landowners will be required to pay the
bill for services on their property. The staff recommendation is to raise the allocation
from $6,000 currently allocated to $12,000. Landowners are typically charged $25
per visit for beavers and $125 per dam removed. Over the past year there were 21
jobs, and the past allocation has typically only covered about 8 jobs. Private
contractors would generally charge two to three times the cost for these services.
Beaver Management E-mail from Bill Stone - Extension
Director.pdf Lee County FY 19 BMAP.pdf
Motion: Motion to approve the staff recommendation to increase the Beaver
Management program to $12,000.
Mover: Robert Reives
For: 6 - Amy Dalrymple, Arianna Del Palazzo, Dr. Andre Knecht, Robert Reives,
Cameron Sharpe, Kirk Smith
Absent: 1 - Kevin Dodson
Motion Result: Passed
