G3
County Manager's Report — April 16, 2012
Ongoing Projects
1) The Wooten Company is working on the design of the paving project on Clyde
Rhyne Road. They have been concentrating on securing the Storm Water
Permit from the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources — Water
Quality. There will be a requirement that the County secure around 6 acres of
land for a conservation easement. The County and CCCC own property next to
the Telecommunications Building that could be used for this purpose. We have
sent CCCC a letter asking them to consider our request. If they agree we will
then have to get consent from Wells Fargo who is the lien holder on the property.
If this plan is approved then we are hopeful to have this project out to bid by June
with construction during the summer.
2) Work on the Diving Pool at OT Sloan is complete. Some new work is being
completed on the lap pool so that it will be ready to open in May.
3) General Services is getting ready to bid the new Chiller System for the
Government Center. This project was delayed due to engineering issues with
where the new unit will be placed. The location has now been worked out and
bids should be out in the next week. The employees in the Government Center
may have to deal without AC for a few days when the switch -out occurs.
a) The notice to proceed has been given to the Contractor for the basement
renovation project. We have had the preconstruction meeting with the Architect
and the Contractor. Work will be fully involved by April 30 Contractor has
agreed to begin work in Jail on lighting project as soon as materials arrive at the
Site.
Other Items
1) Work continues on the Fiscal Year 2012 -13 budget. We have reviewed all
department requests and have met with all department heads. We will be
meeting with only one Department a second time — Sheriff's Department. As of
the writing of this report, we have not received the Board of Education request.
Chairman Shook and Vice Chairman Parks and I are to meet with the Chair, Vice
Chair and Superintendent to go over their request with them. We also need to
review CCCC's request. The final budget recommendation will be ready prior to
