J. Fuel purchase request from MINA Charter School of Lee County.
Jeanette Peace, Vice Chair of the Board of Directors and Chair of the Operations
Committee for MINA Charter School of Lee County, issued a request to the County
for the purchase of fuel for school buses. Beginning August 2020, MINA Charter
School of Lee County, located in the old Kendale Plaza in Jonesboro, will provide
free public school to grades K -5. The County purchases fuel in bulk from various
suppliers based on rate and stores it for use at the General Services Building. As
requests are made, General Services will continue to monitor current fuel supply and
demand and make recommendations accordingly. MINA Charter School has
estimated the purchase and use of about 500 gallons of fuel per month. General
Services Director Russel Spivey stated that if approved, the County has the current
ability to accommodate this request. The following organizations currently purchase
fuel from the County. boys and Girls Club, Johnston Lee Community Action, Lee
County Industries, Sandhills Center, and Lee County Schools. Legal staff has
prepared a memorandum of understanding memorializing the terms of the purchase
arrangement.
III. OLD BUSINESS
IV.A Lee County Government Draft Strategic Plan Presentation
The Board approved moving forward with a countywide strategic plan in December
2019. Sheryl Trent and Zach Ratkai with SBrand Consulting presented the Lee
County Government Draft Strategic Plan. The purpose of the plan is to give
feedback on where the County should head in the future. The plan reflects input
from the Board of Commissioners, the Advisory Committee, community partners and
the general public. Information was gathered via data collection, the visioning
session, committee workshops, partner interviews, a community webinar, and a
community survey. Additional input will be sought over the next month. A request to
adopt the proposed strategic plan will be presented to the Board at the September
21, 2020 Board of Commissioners meeting. The strategic plan has a vision, mission
with a purpose, core values which show how the plan is implemented, and key areas
of focus which include 6 priorities that Lee County Government wants to address.
Goals are broad and intangible with long-term visions. Objectives get more specific
and often have dates and measurable output. This plan is for Lee County
Government to get together once a year to discuss and update the plan which will
continuously provide a guide for making decisions and plans for the future. Strategic
Plans answer three questions, where you are today, where you want to be in the
future, and how are you going to accomplish that. Ms. Trent requested further
feedback from the Board on the Draft Strategic Plan by September 1st in order to
finalize the plan for the Board's next meeting. The six key areas of focus are arts and
culture, community safety, economic development, education, health and well being
and partnerships. There is one more community meeting after the plan is adopted to
