BOOK io 392 0 <br />Under North Carolina General Statutes 162-5, the duties of <br />the Sheriff have been performed by the Chief Deputy Sheriff. The Chairman <br />declared that the office of Sheriff was vacant and asked what was the pleasure of <br />the Board. Commissioner John E. Dotterer moved that Mr. Billy Bryant, the <br />present Chief Deputy, be appointed Sheriff to fill the unexpired term. Commiss- <br />ioner Jack D. Funderburke seconded the motion and upon a vote he was unani- <br />mously appointed. The Chairman declared Mr. Billy Bryant to have been the duly <br />appointed Sheriff of Lee County and called Mr. Bryant forward to take the oath of <br />office. The Clerk of Superior Court, Sion Kelly, administered the oath of office, <br />a copy of which is attached hereto and by this reference made a part hereof. <br />Representatives of Bankingport, Inc. , presented a public <br />official bond in the amount of $5, 000. 00, effective March 1, 1982, on Billy <br />Bryant, to run through the first Monday in December, 1982. Upon motion made <br />by Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen, which motion was duly seconded by Commiss- <br />ioner Jack D. Funderburke and unanimously adopted upon a vote, Sheriff Bryant's <br />bond was approved and ordered filed in the office of the Clerk of Superior Court. <br />The Chairman declared that Sheriff Bryant had been duly appointed, had now <br />qualified and was the duly acting Sheriff of Lee County. <br />The Board authorized the County Manager to seek a change in <br />zoning to permit the re-location of the mobile home in the vicinity of the office <br />of Social Services. <br />Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen asked the Board to consider some <br />method of recognition for the service of members of its various Boards and <br />Commissions and the matter was discussed with the County Manager. <br />The County Attorney reported on the EEOC claims against the <br />County and other matters in litigation. <br />County Manager Hartman reported on his visit to Washington. <br />There being no further business to coeb'efore the session, it <br />was adjourned sine die. <br />CHAIRMAN <br />C <br />
