MOK 10 PA sF 568
• SUGGESTED STANDARDS FOR ADOPTION OF PETS FROM HUMANE SOCIETY A14IMAL SHELTER
Our purpose is to place an animal in a responsible home where it will receive veterninary
care when needed and where it will be controlled so as not to become a free-roaming
animal or add to the surplus of animals already in the community.
1. Animals will be placed with adults of legal age to be kept as household pets.
Animals will not be placed as guard dogs or to be kept chained as outside dogs.
No cat will be placed just to function as a mouser.
2. No animal is to be released for adoption as a gift for somebody else. One person
can pay the adoption fees and obtain a "gift certificate" for another person, who
then must come to the shelter to select a pet.
3. An adoption contract will be signed clearly stating an adopted animal shall not
be sold, or given away to another individual, and must be returned to the.animal
shelter if the adopter can no longer keep and maintain it properly. The shelter
should ask to see a driver's license or other identification to verify the new
owners's identity, and include the identification number in the contract.
4. The adoption agreement for contract must specify that the Humane Society has the
right to investigate the new home and is authorized to remove the animal if it
is not receiving adequate care, if it is being endangered by lack of veterinary
care, if there is or has been a violation of the adoption agreement, or if there
is or has been a failure to observe local animal ordinances and anti-cruelty laws.
(6Z. No dogs will be released for adoption unless the adopter agrees to restrict the
animal to his/her property or has direct control of the animal off their premises.
6. All animals will have collars with the name, address and telephone number of the
owner, the rabies and license tags, and any other identification required in each
community. Cats will have a collar with inserted elastic with the required
identification written on the collar.
7. All animals will be spayed or neutered within a maximum of five (5) months of adoption.
Failure to have the animal neutered shall be cause for repossession of the animal
from the adopter.
8. All animals should be examined by a veterinarian within seventy-two (72) hours
of adoption. If, for any medical reason, the examination discloses that the
health of the animal is questionable, the animal must be returned to the shelter
and all monies deposited by the adopter must be refunded.
