B66K 11 mu 5 <br />Board of Education, appeared before the Board and requested approval of the <br />purchase of a small tract of land on Hood Avenue, which belonged to the Sam <br />McLean Estate and which had been fenced by the school authorities as a part of the <br />W. B. Wicker School site. Commissioner Wicker moved that the Board approve <br />the purchase of the property as an addition to the W. B. Wicker School site. Comm- <br />issioner Wicker moved that the Board approve the purchase of the property as an <br />addition to the W. B. Wicker School site. Commissioner Matthews seconded the <br />motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. Hal T. Siler, of the Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce, <br />appeared before the Board and explained the plans for publication of an area life <br />style publication on Lee County and the costs of ads in said publication. No formal <br />action was taken on the matter. <br />Mr. S. F. Westbrook, Tax Supervisor, appeared before the Board <br />and presented requests for refunds due to clerical error and releases as set out in <br />his report. Commissioner Almond moved that $36. 95 be refunded to Ella M. Beattie <br />and that $36. 01 be refunded to Sallie Williams, in accordance with their written <br />requests since the property was double listed through clerical error and the taxes <br />paid and further that releases be granted as set,forth in the release report dated <br />November, 1982, a copy of which is attached hereto and by this reference made a <br />part hereof. <br />The County Manager presented a budget amendment to distribute <br />the unemployment insurance tax from the Finance Office to the various offices that <br />incurred the expense. Also, the amendment would make two line item transfers <br />within the Department of Social Services budget and would budget additional money for <br />energy purposes. Commissioner Dossenbach moved that the budget amendment identi- <br />fied as "Appropriation Adjustment #82120608'', a copy of which is attached to these <br />minutes and by this. reference made a part hereof, be approved and adopted. Comm- <br />issioner Wicker seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Chairman Dotterer announced the appointment of commissioners to <br />various boards and agencies, as follows: <br />(a) Commissioner Wicker to serve as Fire Commissioner, <br />Roads Commissioner, and as a member of the board <br />for the District Health Board, Council On Aging, and <br />the Industrial Development Corporation. <br />(b) Commissioner Dossenbach to serve as delegate to <br />Triangle J Council of Government and on the board <br />of the Central Business District Authority. <br />(c) Commissioner Matthews to serve as a member of the <br />board for the Department of Social Services, the Local <br />Waste Management Board, the Youth Commission, and <br />the Personnel Board. <br />
