j <br /> aQ3K it PACE 36 <br /> MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR THE COUNTY <br /> OF LEE, NORTH CAROLINA <br /> Tuesday, January 4, 1983 <br /> *************************************** <br /> The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of <br /> Lee, State of North Carolina, convened in the Commissioners Room, second <br /> floor, County Office Building, 200 Wicker Street, Sanford, North Carolina, <br /> on Tuesday, January 4, 1983, at 9:30 o' clock a.m. Those present were <br /> Commissioners John E. Dotterer, Bertha L. Matthews , Jerry M. Almond, John <br /> R. Dossenbach , Jr. , and Gordon A. Wicker. The Chairman declared a quorum <br /> present and the meeting open for the transaction of business . <br /> Chairman John E. Dotterer presided and the following business was <br /> transacted: <br /> Reverend David Early gave the invocation. <br /> The minutes of the regular meeting held on Monday, December 20, 1982 , <br /> were approved and ordered recorded, upon motion of Commissioner Dossenbach, <br /> seconded by Commissioner Matthews , which motion was unanimously adopted <br /> upon a vote. <br /> The Board next discussed road matters. Commissioner Wicker reported <br /> to the Board that some residents of Clearwater Forest are concerned that <br /> the speed limit on Clearwater Drive is too fast. Commissioner Wicker made <br /> a motion to request the Department of Transportation to post 35 miles per <br /> hour speed signs along Clearwater Drive, which motion was seconded by <br /> Commissioner Matthews and upon a vote was unanimously adopted. At this <br /> time the Board took note of the Annual Statement of Expenditures as received <br /> from the Department of Transportation . <br /> The Board next discussed the Law Enforcement Retirement Program. The <br /> County Manager reviewed a comparison of the Law Enforcement Officers Benefit <br /> and Retirement'Fund and the Local Governmental Employees ' Retirement System. <br /> After_some :discussion, Commissioner Wicker made a motion not to make a <br /> ' contribution for employees choosing to enroll in the Law Enforcement Officers <br /> Benefit and Retirement Fund, which motion was seconded by Commissioner Almond, <br /> and upon a vote was unanimously adopted. <br /> Sheriff James Holt appeared before the Board and discussed some of the <br /> procedures used in the operation of the Sheriff' s Department. Commissioner <br /> Almond requested that Lee County be compared to other Sheriff' s Departments <br /> in the state. <br />
