Update on Plans for Horton Park and Temple Ball Field
County Manager John Crumpton provided updates on parks the County has been
working on making improvements to with the bond money that was passed a few years ago. At
Lett Park there was $150,000 invested in improving the park including improvements to the
field, playground and Tiny Tots building. The four park projects include updates at Horton,
Temple, OT Sloan and Kiwanis Children's Park. There will be playground equipment upgrades
at Kiwanis Children's Park. Phase I of the project at Horton Park includes redoing the
basketball court, eliminating the pool, and addressing park equipment and permanent parking.
At Temple Park, the County has plans to take out two softball fields and create an open space
trail with a couple of large fields to use. Bids for Phase I of the park improvements are due the
20th of July. The County Manager stated that construction should be underway in August at the
four parks. The objective is to have most of the improvements done by spring of 2021. There
are no timelines currently set for Phase II and the County is still in the process of addressing
funding for Phase II plans. Dr. Crumpton stated that Phase II plans may include the Sports
Complex if the bond is passed in 2020. The County is trying to be as conservative as possible
going forward due to the inability to project sales tax revenues as a result of the pandemic.
Chair Dalrymple suggested sending the plans to Sanford and Broadway and to come up with
ways to get the information to the communities that will be impacted by the park renovations.
II.
