Beni 11 r;cF 99
San-Lee Humane Society, Inc.. I
P. 0. Box 1829
Sanford, N.C. 27330
•
March 17, 1983
Lee County Board of Commissioners
P. 0. Box 987
Sanford, N.C. 27330
Honorable Commissioners:
The San-Lee Humane Society wishes to thank you for your cooperation and your concern
in allowing us to work with you and the city in the adoption of animals from the
present pound facility. We are presently working out the final details for implement-
ing this program and would request your assistance in overcoming a few minor
difficulties. Please consider these requests individually and bear with us as we are
attempting to overcome these problems before they occur and make the operation as
Dimple as possible.
(1) We feel that the present system for collecting money for either an adopted
animal or a retrieved pet is awkward. While the city has a base charge of
$10.00, the county has a base charge of $10.00 + $2.00 per day. This is not
unreasonable, but the two fees should be the same. Moreover, Tommy Fallin
is allowed to collect the fees at the facility and remit them to the city
offices, while Blue Cameron must send potential adopters to the county office
to pay while he waits for them at the Central Carolina Technical College
facility. This policy is both cumbersome and ineffective. We would request
that the city and county adopt equal charges and that we be allowed to
collect them at the facility and remit to either the county or city as the
situation dictates. Our planned schedule of both evening and Saturday hours
would of course, necessitate the change.
(2) Due to our controlled adoption policy, it will be necessary for those
animals adopted on the fifth day to become the sole property of the San-Lee
Humane Society. This is so we may insure that the new owners follow through
with their agreement to fully immunize, spay, or neuter their animal.
(3) We would further request that you grant us office space in the old hospital-
county office building. This for our desk, file and phone.
(4) We would also like for you to consider placing a rider on your liability
insurance policy for our workers in the pound. This to be at the sole expense
• of the San-Lee Humane Society. We have been advised that this would be more
effective than a separate policy.
