nqo 11. ?AGE 110 <br />It was reported to the Board that citizens had complained about the <br />operation of a softball tournament during Church hours. The matter was referred <br />to the Recreation Commission. <br />Mr. Steve McDuffie appeared before the Board and presented his <br />recommendations for reducing the amount of expenditures in the Recreation Depart- <br />ment budget. <br />Mrs. Karen H; Johnson, Supervisor of Elections, appeared before <br />the Board and reported' to the'Board that the Lee County Board of Elections had <br />reviewed the Petition for an election on having a tax supported fire district in the <br />Northwest Pocket Fire District and the Cape Fear Fire District and that both. <br />petitions were in order and had been executed by more than 15% of the resident <br />freeholders in such area.: Commissioner Jerry M. Almond moved the adoption of <br />the following resolution: <br />WHEREAS, petitions have been presented to the <br />Board of Commissioners for Lee County, requesting that <br />an-election be called to establish a rural fire protection <br />district in the Northwest Pocket and Cape Fear Fire Districts; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the petitions have been examined and it <br />has been determined that the petitions contain more than <br />fifteen (15%u) per cent of the resident freeholders living in <br />the respective areas; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners has a duty <br />to call said elections under N. C. G. S. 69-25. 1; <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS' OF THE COUNTY OF LEE, <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br />1. The question whether the qualified voters.in the <br />area described. in the petitions and designated as Northwest <br />Pocket and Cape Fear Fire Districts, shall approve or dis- <br />approve the levying and collecting a special tax on all taxable <br />property in.said districts of not exceeding 15~ of the $100 val- <br />uation of property for the purpose of providing fire protection <br />in said districts shall be submitted to the qualified voters of <br />said districts residing in Lee County, atan election to be held <br />on June 21, 1983; <br />2. The Lee County Board of Elections is hereby direct- <br />ed to hold and conduct the election in said districts and shall <br />advertise and conduct said election in accordance with Article <br />3A entitled "Rural Fire Protection District" of- Chapter 69 of <br />the General Statutes of North Carolina, and with the procedures <br />
