RESOLUTION OF THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> IN SUPPORT OF RIGHTS AFFORDED BY THE SECOND AMENDMENT <br /> TO THE UNITED STATES CONSITUTION <br /> WHEREAS, It is recognized that the Constitution of the United States of America is the <br /> supreme law of the land, and the Second Amendment to the Constitution guarantees to <br /> individuals the right to keep and bear arms in a manner that shall not be infringed; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Article I, Section 30 of the North Carolina Constitution states: "A well- <br /> regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep <br /> and bear arms shall not be infringed;" and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Supreme Court of the United States has,through multiple rulings, upheld <br /> an individual's right to keep and bear arms; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the right to keep and bear arms is necessary for self-defense; for the defense <br /> of others, including family members; and for the protection of individual liberty and the <br /> preservation of our United States Constitution; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Lee County Board of Commissioners is committed to protecting all of the <br /> Constitutional rights of the citizens of Lee County and desire that no law, executive order or <br /> resolution be passed that would constitutionally infringe upon a citizens' right under the <br /> Second Amendment of the United States Constitution and the North Carolina Constitution to <br /> keep and bear arms; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Lee County Board of Commissioners wishes to express its commitment <br /> to protecting Lee County citizens' Second Amendment rights; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Lee County Board of Commissioners previously expressed its support for <br /> the Second Amendment rights of Lee County citizens through a Resolution to Preserve and <br /> Defend the United States Constitution and the North Carolina Constitution which was adopted <br /> on the fourth day of February, 2013, whereby the Sheriff"issued a pledge to support our <br /> citizens' right to keep and bear arms and to fight against any illegal or unconstitutional <br /> attempts to seize the lawfully obtained firearms of law abiding citizens"; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Lee County Board of Commissioners desires to reiterate its support for <br /> the second amendment rights of Lee County citizens. <br />
