The county currently has 45 confirmed cases. 173 employees are working
from home. Around 200 employees are reporting to work on a daily basis mainly
sheriff, DSS, Administration, and the Health Department. The flow of PPE has
improved. Staff is still searching for more thermometers to conduct screenings. It is
still to be determined if the State has the capacity to evaluate tests. No updates
regarding antibody testing have been provided by DHHS. There have been many
questions about test results and communicating more information about test results
to the public. NC law is clear, the Health Department Director is responsible for all
data during a disease event and he is responsible for keeping the data confidential.
From a statistical standpoint, we do not have the numbers to be able to provide the
information. If any employees test positive, unless the employee provides the
information, the information would not be releasable. There is a lot of information the
County is unable to release. May 4th has been set as the date to start bringing staff
back to the workplace and to start reopening services. There are issues to discuss
with Parks and Recreation. There are some Departments in the State that have
cancelled programs through the end of the year. In light of some concerns regarding
social distancing the pool will likely be open only to small groups, but not open swim.
Staff are also reviewing library operations. The drive up operations is anticipated to
start back on May 4th. There are issues to consider with the public interaction with
employees with the Government Center and the Courthouse. Dr. Crumpton stated
that we (staff) want to continue to do screenings at the Government Center and
Courthouse but if the State opens the Court system we will be waiting to see what
rules they might put in place. The County Manager made the call to close the
Manned Convenience Centers on Sundays due to the amount of trash that was
7
