Mayor Mann provided an update on DOT projects including the <br /> proposed roundabout at the intersection of Carthage and Wicker Street and the proposed reroute of <br /> Kelly Drive to Nash Street. Mann also provided an update on the S3 Connect Homeless initiative, which <br /> included the creation of an emergency cold and hot weather shelter, changing the shelter operation <br /> from high barrier to low barrier, and coordinated response of non-profit organizations through 211. <br /> Chair Amy Dalrymple representing the Lee County Board of Commissioners spoke of the <br /> synergy of community leaders and board members. She stated that she is looking to make a better <br /> future for the young people in the community and while there will be growing pains, there is a need to <br /> strike a balance between small town feel while still being able to offer opportunity. Chair Dalrymple <br /> announced that the Board of Commissioners will meet for their annual planning retreat January 30 <br /> through the 31St in the Gordon Wicker Room at the Lee County Government Center to discuss priorities <br /> and work on creating a strategic plan for the County to assist with accommodating rapid growth and <br /> prioritizing goals. The County recently hired a new Parks and Recreation Director, Joseph Keel. The <br /> Board also recently voted to proceed with building a new Lee Early College facility and a County library. <br /> The Board also voted to add a bond referendum for a sports complex on the 2020 ballot. <br /> Commissioner Smith joined the Chair in meeting with a peer from Wake County, Steven Hutchinson, to <br /> discuss connecting greenway trails with 9 other counties to create a regional greenway system. Among <br /> other updates,the Chair announced that due to court decision, voter identification requirements have <br /> been placed on hold. There will be a meeting of the 2020 Census Complete County Committee on <br /> Wednesday, February 5th beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the McSwain Center, 2420 Tramway Road, Sanford, <br /> NC. The census goes online March 23`d and Census Day is April 1st. The 2020 Census Complete Count <br /> Committee is a subcommittee intended to assist in getting a good count of the population so the <br /> county is not undercounted and thus underrepresented. <br /> Julian Philpot, Chair of the Central Carolina Community College Board of Trustees stated that <br /> CCCC is one of the best community colleges in the state and nation and has the ability to continue to <br /> provide education to prepare the workforce to meet Lee County's needs. <br /> „Airk Bradley provided a closing speech.
