C66 <br />1 1.7.11 POLITICAL SIGNS. (with draft changes) <br />Temporary political signs erected in connection with elections or political campaigns <br />shall be permitted on private property or within any public street right -of -way subject to <br />the following rules: <br />• Maximum size of six (6) square feet and height of 42 inches <br />• Minimum distance from the pavement edge shall be three (3) feet <br />• Maximum time of display before an election shall be 30 days before the 3` <br />Thursday prior to the election <br />• Maximum time of display after an election shall be 10 days <br />• No sign shall be permitted in the right -of -way of a fully controlled access <br />highway <br />• No sign shall obscure motorist visibility at an intersection <br />• No sign shall obscure or replace another sign <br />Proposed Amendment 2. Staff recommends that a new section be added to Section 11.7 <br />Signs That Do Not Require A Permit that will address temporary construction signs. The <br />UDO currently does not address these signs in any way and staff recommends that new <br />language be added to do so. Below is the draft language for discussion. <br />11.7.18 TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION SIGNS <br />Any temporary sign erected during construction which may indicate the project name and <br />the names of architects, contractors, subcontractors, developers, rental agencies, financial <br />institutions, or other principals involved in the sponsorship, design, and construction of a <br />structure or project. Such signs shall be limited to a maximum of 32 square feet in area <br />in non - residential zoned areas and 16 square feet in residentially zoned areas. Placement <br />of signs shall be limited to a maximum of one per public street frontage and must be <br />placed on the property(s) in which the constructing project is occurring. No construction <br />sign shall be erected prior to issuance of a building permit, and the sign shall be removed <br />within fifteen (15) days after issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy. <br />Proposed Amendment 3. Staff recommends that Section 11.7.12 REAL ESTATE SIGNS <br />(OFF- PREMISE) be updated to (a) include "or lease ", (b) include non - residential real estate <br />and (c) language to specify that permission to place sign shall be responsibility of persons <br />desiring to erect sign. The proposed changes are shown below. <br />1 1.7.12 REAL ESTATE SIGNS (OFF- PREMISE). <br />Off - premise signs not exceeding six (6) square feet which advertise the sale or lease of <br />- .,.S:deRtiR...:..' property are permitted as provided herein. Such sign shall not be illuminated <br />or located within a sight triangle or a public right -of -way. It shall be the responsibility <br />of the person erecting the sign to obtain permission to place an off - premise sign on <br />private property. <br />
