The <br />term does not include a commercial sign. <br />UDO Section 11.7.11 Political Signs and Section 11.6 Prohibited Signs needs to be updated <br />to reflect these changes for all State roadways. Additionally, Sanford and Broadway will <br />need to decide if they would like to apply these same standards to municipal maintained <br />streets or keep the current standards as listed below. <br />1 1.7.11 POLITICAL SIGNS. (current UDO language) <br />Temporary political signs erected in connection with elections or political campaigns <br />must be erected on private property, and in no instance shall they be permitted within any <br />public right -of -way. Political signs shall not be placed on any utility poles, trees on public <br />property, or in any street median. Political signs shall be limited to a maximum sign area <br />of six (6) square feet within the zoning jurisdiction of the City of Sanford or the Town of <br />Broadway and a maximum of 32 square feet within the zoning jurisdiction of Lee <br />County. Political signs may be displayed during a period beginning 45 days prior to an <br />election the candidate is participating in and concluding 72 hours after said election. In <br />the event of a runoff election, political signs for the candidates involved may remain on <br />display until 72 hours after the runoff election. <br />Comparison of current UDO and State language <br />Based on input from the members of the Joint Planning Commission, staff is recommending <br />that the UDO Section 11.7.11 Political Signs and Section 11.6 Prohibited Signs be updated to <br />substantially mirror the State rules for both State and locally maintained roadways.
