Task One: Design a customized strategic plan process
Each process and framework we design is unique to our clients (and based on extensive
conversations during the kickoff meeting and throughout the timeframe), but all our work
includes consistent communication, facilitated meetings that are based on consensus and
teamwork, follow up documentation for clear messaging, a Strategic Plan that creates amazing
outcomes, and an Implementation Plan for specific operational tactics.
Any process is only as functional and effective as the information gathered. For us, there are
three key inputs to our methodology: the people, the preparation, and the product.
People
Our preference is to incorporate as many people into the process as possible, through the
approach of multiple facilitated community engagement meetings, focus groups, in person
interviews of key stakeholders, phone interviews, social media interaction, short surveys, press
releases, and other methods. Lee County will, of course, help us identify stakeholders and
partners to include in the planning process, and we have some specific recommendations for
consideration as well.
Clearly your team is already aware of the opportunities to engage stakeholders. There may
also be an opportunity for additional outreach during community events, as well as inviting
specific experts to meetings as needed. We recommend forming a small team to help guide the
process and give feedback to us throughout the life of the project. That could be the Lee
County staffing team, staff or elected officials from the two towns, the college, members of
committees or commissions, and many others. We've called that an Advisory Group in this
proposal.
Preparation
Preparation for the conversations and the facilitated meetings are a critical factor in the success
of the process. (We often spend 5 hours researching, creating engaging exercises, and
planning for every 1 hour in a meeting.) From the feedback received during the kickoff
meetings and conversations as well as the review and research of documentation, we will
recommend questions to guide the personal interviews and surveys. Often, more in depth
follow up questions can then be created to gain even more information.
The preparation for the facilitated meetings is both an art and science. As a Certified Master
FacilitatorT" Sheryl is a recognized expert in creating a facilitated meeting that accomplishes:
1) Full, comfortable, and enthusiastic input and engagement from all participants.
2) Relationship building through communication and shared understanding during the
meeting.
3) Support for the ideas and buy in for the implementation of the Strategic Plan.
4) The outcomes and products (relationships and deliverables) that the stakeholders want
and need.
SBrand Consulting, LLC www.sheryltrent.com
Page 4 of 11
970.208.6633
