RESOLUTION HONORING KATE RUMELY ON HER RETIREMENT WHEREAS, Kate Rumely has led the Brick Capital Community Development Corporation for over 20 years as Executive Director, assuming the role in February 1997; and, WHEREAS, the Brick Capital Community Development Corporation has a nine member Board of Directors whose membership has changed throughout Kate Rumely's tenure and has provided the opportunity for her to exhibit great leadership and consensus building skills managing changing board dynamics including with current board members Reverend Freeman Brooks, Bill Wilson, Milton Burch, James French, Brenda Johnson, Terry McMillan, Margaret Murchison, and Brenda Williams; and, WHEREAS, under Kate Rumely's leadership, the Brick Capital Community Development Corporation has strived to create new affordable housing stock in our community for low-income families, provide homeownership education and support for first-time homebuyers, and strengthen the sense of community and improve the quality of life for the citizens of Lee County; and, WHEREAS, under Kate Rumely's direction, Brick Capital Community Development Corporation has built 63 affordable single-family homes and 63 multi -family apartments throughout Lee County; and, WHEREAS, Kate Rumely's vision to restore the WB Wicker School, a historic Rosenwald School, became a catalyst for the revitalization of the surrounding neighborhood; and, WHEREAS, Kate Rumely assisted with the construction of a new 29 -bed domestic violence shelter and offices for HAVEN of Lee County; and, WHEREAS, under the leadership of Kate Rumely, Brick Capital Community Development Corporation has developed strong partnerships with government, community organizations, private banks and lenders and the business community that have been instrumental to the success of the organization in achieving their mission and goals; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Lee County Board of Commissioners to recognize the achievements of Kate Rumely and to express their appreciation for her dedicated service and contributions to Lee County.
