RESOLUTION HONORING KATE RUMELY ON HER RETIREMENT <br />WHEREAS, Kate Rumely has led the Brick Capital Community Development Corporation for over 20 <br />years as Executive Director, assuming the role in February 1997; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Brick Capital Community Development Corporation has a nine member Board of <br />Directors whose membership has changed throughout Kate Rumely's tenure and has provided the <br />opportunity for her to exhibit great leadership and consensus building skills managing changing board <br />dynamics including with current board members Reverend Freeman Brooks, Bill Wilson, Milton Burch, <br />James French, Brenda Johnson, Terry McMillan, Margaret Murchison, and Brenda Williams; and, <br />WHEREAS, under Kate Rumely's leadership, the Brick Capital Community Development Corporation <br />has strived to create new affordable housing stock in our community for low-income families, provide <br />homeownership education and support for first-time homebuyers, and strengthen the sense of community <br />and improve the quality of life for the citizens of Lee County; and, <br />WHEREAS, under Kate Rumely's direction, Brick Capital Community Development Corporation has built <br />63 affordable single-family homes and 63 multi -family apartments throughout Lee County; and, <br />WHEREAS, Kate Rumely's vision to restore the WB Wicker School, a historic Rosenwald School, <br />became a catalyst for the revitalization of the surrounding neighborhood; and, <br />WHEREAS, Kate Rumely assisted with the construction of a new 29 -bed domestic violence shelter and <br />offices for HAVEN of Lee County; and, <br />WHEREAS, under the leadership of Kate Rumely, Brick Capital Community Development Corporation <br />has developed strong partnerships with government, community organizations, private banks and lenders <br />and the business community that have been instrumental to the success of the organization in achieving <br />their mission and goals; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Lee County Board of Commissioners to recognize the achievements of <br />Kate Rumely and to express their appreciation for her dedicated service and contributions to Lee County. <br />
