The Chamber has provided great <br /> opportunities and education through Leadership Sanford, which promotes a <br /> continuous diverse supply of creative leaders to the community by developing <br /> their knowledge of the region and expanding on resources for the community. <br /> Networking events allow for referrals between businesses and development <br /> of relationships. In 2018, there were 13 ribbon cuttings representing 54 new <br /> jobs. In 2019, 108 new jobs have been reported in connection with ribbon <br /> cutting events. The Chamber serves as a small business resource and <br /> referral resource. The Chamber has developed a small business resources <br /> guide as a result of the frequent request for assistance. Michael Smith, <br /> Sanford Area Growth Alliance CEO, stated that on July 10th there were two <br /> large visits on the same day at the same time. He further provided that this <br /> year has been one of the most successful of any North Carolina community. <br /> Rural NC Event held in Sanford. SAGA has a great marketing relationship <br /> with WRAL. In August, there was a big announcement of an expansion of a <br /> gene therapy program at Pfizer. This expansion will create 300 new full time <br /> jobs. Caterpillar recently announced renovation of 140k sq. ft. manufacturing <br /> facility. More than a dozen other manufacturers have completed facility <br /> expansions or are discussing them. Bharat Forge will create 460 new jobs. <br /> VI. D. Donation of lane lines and swim goggles. (Moved from the Consent Agenda) <br /> Note: The lane lines and accessories are valued at$3,500. The goggles are <br /> valued at$7,700 ($11/pair for 700 pairs). The County will only be <br /> responsible for shipping costs of the goggles, estimated to be approximately <br /> $300. Lee County also agrees not to re-sell the goggles and will make them <br /> available-for free to participants in the Learn to Swim program offered by <br /> Parks and Recreation. The Lee County Parks and Recreation Board <br /> approved the request at their 10/28/19 meeting. Parks and Recreation <br /> Director John Payne presented the donation of lane lines and swim goggles <br /> to the Board. He stated that Cindy Castle, aquatics supervisor, has great <br /> ideas for expanding programming at the pool.
