Presentation on information regarding Project SAFE in Lee County <br /> Note: County Manager John Crumpton met with representatives from the <br /> District Attorney's Office and the Department of Justice to discuss project <br /> SAFE Neighborhood. This project involves coordinated efforts with substance <br /> abuse rehabilitation, Health and Human Services, and Probation. The <br /> coordinator would report to the District Attorney's office and will be required to <br /> work with organizations in the area to coordinate these efforts targeting crime <br /> in the community. The Manager requested the Board's support to finalize the <br /> Memorandum of Understanding and job description for the coordinator <br /> position. There is an expectation that the County will provide partial funding <br /> for the position. The City of Sanford has committed up to X20,000 for the <br /> position and expects the same from the County. The person would be a <br /> County employee and would report to a committee of members provided in <br /> the Memorandum of Understanding. There would be a seven member <br /> executive board. Vernon Stewart, District Attorney, stated that there was a <br /> 15% reduction in violent crime at the time the program was in progress. He <br /> stated that the coordinator will be the center of the wheel responsible for <br /> lining up resources including mental health,job opportunities, and education <br /> opportunities. The coordinator will have to have the ability to explain to <br /> governing boards what they do and how they are doing it. The person would <br /> be a County employee and subject to the Lee County Personnel Policy. <br /> Commissioner Reives requested a copy of what Cabarrus County reports <br /> look like and how they are categorized. Update from the Sanford Area Growth Alliance. - Michael Smith/Bob Joyce <br /> Meg Moss, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce for the Sanford <br /> Area Growth Alliance provided updates on behalf of the Chamber. The RISE <br /> program is a small business entrepreneur course being provided in <br /> partnership with DSI and the CCCC Small Business Center. This program is <br /> slated to begin at the end of January 2020. The Chamber took a leadership <br /> role in Rural Broadband 2020.
