r
3OOK
COUNTY OF LEE,
7
A 1„ ~.5a
NORTH CAROLINA
SPECIAL ASSESSMENTS FOR WATER EXTENSIONS
GRANT OF AUTHORITY AND PROCEDURES
G.S. 153A-185 through 153A-204 provides municipalities authority
to extend waterlines and to defray the cost of waterlines by
special assessments upon the property. The bases for Lee County
making assessments under G.S. 153A-186 is the accepted
agreement of 51% or more of a combination of:
1. Front footage abutting on the project, at an equal
rate per foot of frontage; and
2. The area of land served, or subject to being served,
by the project, at an equal rate per unit of area.
In circumstances where a community or a group of water users is
located some-distance from the point of existing waterline and
requests water services under this policy, then it would be the
responsibility of the community or requesting group to make funds
available to cover the cost of installing the waterline in~the space
between the community and connecting to the existing waterline.
During a ten-year period following the installation of the waterline
between the community and the connecting point of the waterline
system, connection fees (according to front footage and acreage
requirements) will be charged and the funds turned over to the
® community or the group who originally funded the cost for the area
in which the waterline was installed.
