no°i 11 P r.v 2D5 <br />A RESOLUTION TO ESTABLISH THE LEE COUNTY DEPARTMENT ON AGING <br />AND TO CREATE THE LEE COUNTY SENIOR CITIZENS BOARD <br />WHEREAS, Lee County deems it appropriate to meet the special <br />needs of the elderly by establishing a Department on Aging and <br />creating a Senior Citizens Board in order to provide a comprehensive <br />and integrated approach to the delivery of services to Lee County's <br />senior citizens in the fields of health, mental health, social services, <br />recreation, employment and other programs under federal, state and local <br />authority; IT IS NOW THEREFORE resolved by the Board of County Commissioners <br />of Lee County, North Carolina as follows: <br />ARTICLE I. SENIOR CITIZENS BOARD <br />SECTION 1. CREATION, NAME, AND COMPOSITION OF THE BOARD. <br />There is hereby created a Lee County Senior Citizens Board composed <br />of nine citizens of Lee County. Each member of the Board shall be a <br />Lee County resident appointed by the Lee County Board of Commissioners. <br />The Senior Citizens Board shall include: at least five members over <br />the age of 60 years, one County Commissioner, at least two persons who <br />are residents of the City of Sanford, and at least one person who is a <br />resident of the Town of Broadway. The County Commissioner member of the <br />Senior Citizens Board shall serve a term of office concurrent with his <br />or her term of office as County Commissioner. When the County Commissioner <br />member of the Board ceases to be a County Commissioner for any reason, his <br />or her appointment as a member of the Board shall also cease and the Board <br />of County Commissioners, during their next meeting, shall appoint another <br />Commissioner to the Board. All vacancies in the Senior Citizens Board <br />occurring for any cause shall be filled by appointment by the County Board <br />of Commissioners, and the person appointed shall serve the unexpired portion <br />of the term. <br />Members of the Senior Citizens Board shall serve three-year terms, but <br />no Board member may serve more than two consecutive three-year terms. In <br />order to establish a uniform staggered-term structure for the Senior Citizens <br />Board whereby some members' terms will expire each year, the Board of County <br />Commissioners shall initially appoint two persons to a one-year term, three <br />
