AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE NAMES OF <br />ROADS IN LEE COUNTY AND A PROCEDURE FOR <br />THE FUTURE NAMING OR RENAMING OF ROADS <br />IN LEE COUNTY <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners for Lee County recognizes <br />the benefit of a sound road name and sign program; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners for Lee County has <br />applied for and been awarded a grant through the Governor's Highway Safety <br />Program to erect and maintain road signs throughout Lee County; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners for Lee County has, pursuant <br />to General Statute 153A-240, duly advertised and held a public hearing to gain <br />citizen input into the naming of all roads in Lee County; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of <br />Lee County, as follows: <br />Section 1. Existing Roads. <br />(a) That the following Lee County roads, whether a part of the <br />state secondary road system or private, be named hereafter as indicated and <br />shown on the list attached hereto and by this reference made a part hereof. <br />(b) That, pursuant to GS 153A-240, a copy of this ordinance <br />and attached road name list be forwarded to the Department of Transportation. <br />(c) That identifying street markers be located at each inter- <br />section of roads throughout Lee County, excepting those areas lying within the <br />corporated limits of Sanford and Broadway and private subdivisions desiring <br />to erect and maintain their own street sign system. <br />(d) That the road names established in this ordinance shall not <br />be changed by any method except those outlined in this ordinance. <br />Section 2. New Roads. <br />(a) New roads shall be named when created through the sub- <br />division process and in accordance with those procedures outlined in the <br />Subdivision Ordinance. <br />(b) Developers creating new roads shall pay Lee County for <br />the actual cost of purchasing and erecting street signs which meet the standards <br />of the Governor's Highway Safety Program. <br />(c) Developers desiring to use any other type of sign shall <br />have such style and design approved by the Lee County Planning Board. <br />• (d) Private roads or driveways, including mobile home park roads, <br />which require naming because of the Countywide Numbering Program shall have the <br />name certified by the Planning Board and Board of Commissioners. <br />I <br />
