noK 11 ; rs 245 <br />Mrs. Reggie Durham appeared before the Board and presented <br />contracts between joint Orange-Chatham Community Action program, and the <br />Lee County Department of Aging, for the purchase of Title III-C meals for Lee <br />County Senior Citizens and also a contract between the Department On Aging and <br />the Triangle J Council of Governments, for social and senior center services. <br />These contracts were discussed and reviewed. Commissioner Jerry M. Almond <br />moved that the contracts be approved and that the Chairman be authorized to <br />execute and deliver the contracts for and on:behalf of the County. Commissioner <br />Bertha L. Matthews seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously <br />adopted. <br />Mr. Kenneth Foushee, Administrative Officer of the Sheriff's <br />Department, appeared before the Board with respect to the bids taken for the <br />purchase of 6 automobiles. Mr. Foushee stated that the bid received from Slate <br />Motor Company did not meet specifications and that they recommended that the <br />bid be awarded to Mid-State Ford, who was the lowest bidder on the vehicles. <br />He also requested that $6, 300. 00 be appropriated to the Sheriff's Department to <br />enable them to purchase all 7 vehicles. The matter was discussed and Comm- <br />issioner Jerry M. Almond moved that the Board accept the low bid of Mid-State <br />Ford and that the Board appropriate $6, 300. 00 to the Sheriff's Department for <br />capital outlay in order that it might purchase all 7 vehicles. Commissioner <br />John R. Dossenbach, Jr., made a substitute motion to accept the low bid of Mid- <br />State Ford and to authorize the Sheriff to purchase 6 vehicles from his present <br />appropriation. There was no second and the Chair ruled that the substitute motion <br />had died for the lack of a second. Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker then seconded <br />the main motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />The Board next considered the, request for the Recreation Depart- <br />ment to approve an in-county travel allowance of $150. 00 per month for the <br />Assistant Director of the Recreation Department, in lieu of an automobile. The <br />matter was discussed. Commissioner Bertha L. Matthews moved that the County <br />approve the action of the Recreation Commission in providing in their budget for a <br />$150. 00 per month in-county travel allowance for the Assistant Director, in lieu <br />of providing him with an automobile. Commissioner John R. Dossenbach, Jr. , <br />seconded the motion and upon a vote, Commissioner Almond, Commissioner <br />Dossenbach, Commissioner Dotterer and Commissioner Matthews voted for it <br />and Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker voted against it. <br />The Board next considered Budget Amendment #83 09 06 02, a <br />copy of which is attached to these minutes and by this reference made a part <br />hereof. The County Manager reviewed the reasons for and effect of the budget <br />amendment, following which Commissioner Jerry M. Almond moved that Budget <br />Amendment # 83 09 06 02 be approved and adopted. Commissioner Bertha L. <br />Matthews seconded the motion and upon a vote , Commissioners Almond, <br />Dossenbach, Matthews, Wicker and Dotterer voted for it and no one voted <br />against it. <br />
