sao 11 279 <br />Commissioner Jerry M. Almond requested that consideration <br />be given to change the name of the Department Of Aging because the acronym <br />"DOA" has a morbid connotation. <br />Mr. Ron Ferris appeared before the Board and discussed the <br />policy established by the Parks & Recreation Commission that allows private <br />groups to rent the park for exclusive use for a limited period of time. <br />The Board discussed Carolina Trace Fire Department, and <br />upon motion made, seconded and unanimously adopted, it was resolved to <br />appoint Mr. Raymond Sheetz and Mr, Meigs Golden to the Local Fire Retirement <br />Relief Board. <br />The County Manager reported on the Arts Center expenditures <br />and advised the Board that the Maintenance Department was to stabilize the <br />building, repair the floors where they were weak and repair the electical work. <br />Commissioner John R. Dossenbach, Jr, moved that the Board <br />lodge a complaint about the inconsistent mail service at the main post office in <br />Sanford. His motion was duly seconded and unanimously adopted and the County <br />Manager was requested to communicate with the appropriate officials in an effort <br />to see if the mail service could be improved, <br />Commissioner Jerry M. Almond moved that the Board thank Mr. <br />Hubert Garner and the people of the Deep River community for the hospitality <br />that had been shown them. The motion was seconded and unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. Hubert Garner responded and regretted that the people from the community <br />were unable to attend the meeting because of the death of a prominent citizen in <br />their community, <br />Commissioner John E. Dotterer recognized Mr. Ron Ferris, <br />Director of the Parks and Recreation Department and expressed thanks for his <br />service and regret of his resignation from his position. <br />Mr. Tommy Yarborough expressed a desire for cablevision <br />service in the county. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker wants the Sheriff's Department to <br />be brought under the State Retirement Program and asked the Board to authorize <br />the County Manager to investigate the costs and feasibility and the steps necessary <br />to accomplish such purpose. Commissioner Bertha L. Matthews seconded the <br />motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted, <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker expressed the desire that County <br />Departments endeavor to fill their vacancies from local employees. <br />
