?nnK ~1 r~~~ 277 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, October 17th, 1983 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County <br />of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened at 7:00 o'clock p.m., on <br />Monday, October 17th, 1983, at the Deep River Community Building, <br />Sanford, North Carolina. Those present were Commissioners Jerry M. <br />Almond, John R. Dossenbach, Jr., John E. Dotterer, Bertha L. Matthews <br />and Gordon A. Wicker. Chairman John E. Dotterer declared a quorum <br />present and the meeting open for business. <br />Chairman John E. Dotterer presided and the following business <br />was transacted: <br />A brief welcome was extended by Mr. Hubert Garner of the Deep <br />P.iver Community and a moment of silent prayer was observed in memory <br />of Mr. Everett Riddle after which Mr. Garner gave the invocation. <br />Commissioner Almond made a motion that the minutes of the October <br />3, 1983, be approved, which motion was seconded by Commissioner Gordon <br />A. Wicker and unanimously adopted upon a vote. <br />A report was made on an agreement to be signed by the Chairman re- <br />garding the county's participation with Harnett and Sampson counties in <br />the new Job Training Partnership Act. <br />The Board next considered a request from Johnston County Manager Kramer <br />Jackson to provide $1,849 in support of clerical assistance to be located <br />in Johnston County for the new Driving While Impaired (DWI) Coordinator <br />who serves Johnston, Lee and Harnett counties. Commissioner John R. <br />Dossenbach, Jr. made a motion to appropriate $1,849 for this purpose, <br />seconded by Commissioner Bertha L. Matthews and unanimously carried. <br />The Triangle Housing Development Corporation requested that the Board <br />of Commissioners appoint a member to its Board of Directors. Upon motion <br />by Commissioner Jerry M. Almond, seconded by Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker, <br />Mr. Elwin Buchanan was re-appointed by unanimous vote. <br />A discussion was held regarding a sanitation vehicle to replace an <br />existina vehicle that is currently out of service. After much discussion, <br />Commissioner John R. Dossenbach, Jr, moved that the county proceed with the <br />advertising for bids to purchase a new vehicle. Commissioner Dossenbach's <br />motion was seconded by Commissioner Bertha L. Matthews and was unanimously <br />carried. Commissioner Gordon A.,Wicker inquired a to whether or not joint <br />trash collection with the City of Sanford had ever been considered and much <br />discussion ensued. County Manager Bill Hartman was directed to place this <br />matter on the agenda for discussion at the next City-County meeting. <br />
