0
aOOK 11 PACE 344
Mr. Donn R. Gunderson, Director of Social Services, pre-
sented to the Board, a proposal whereby for a small matching fund, the County
could acquire a grant to conduct a training program for Chore Workers. Comm-
issioner Jerry M. Almond moved that the County participate in said program
and that the County Manager be authorized and directed to prepare a Budget
Amendment to submit to the Board to accomplish such purpose. Commiss-
ioner John E. Dotterer seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously
adopted.
Mr. Elwin Buchanan, Grants Director, appeared before the
Board and advised the Board that there was prospect of a new industry
locating in the County and he anticipated presenting a request to the Board in
the near future for its participation in sewer and water line extensions to
said industrial site. Mr. Buchanan reported that he had talked with officials
at EDA and had been advised to submit the County's request for improvements
to the Floyd Knight School under two different programs. Commissioner John
R. Dossenbach, Jr. , moved that Mr. Buchanan be authorized to update the
grant applications and submit them under the federal grant programs where
funds might be available. Commissioner John E. Dotterer seconded the
motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted.
Commissioner John R. Dossenbach, Jr., brought up for
consideration, the establishment of a Personnel Policy with respect to
days when County offices are closed because snow has made it impossible
for employees to come to work. By consensus, the matter was referred to
the Personnel Committee for its recommendations.
The County Manager advised the Board that the Revenue
Program and continued participation in it would be contingent upon all public
buildings being adapted so that they were easily accessible to handicapped
persons.
Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker mentioned that the Mental
Health Director was ill and confined to the hospital and it was directed that
a card be sent to him on behalf of the Board.
There being no further business to come before the session,
it was adjourned sine die.
CHAIRMAN
CLER
