BOOK il PAE 348 <br />MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR THE COUNTY <br />OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />n . m n rm=. $=6 <br />Thursday, n ~ n m , n ~ . n mm%° <br />January 26, 1984 <br />The Special Meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the <br />County of Lee, State of North Carolina, conveved at Carolina Trace, on <br />Thursday, January 26, 1984, at 12:00 o'clock noon, the same being the time, <br />date and place specified in the call issued by the Chairman. Those present <br />were Commissioners Jerry M. Almond, John R. Dossenbach, Jr., John E. <br />Dotterer, Bertha L. Matthews and Gordon A. Wicker. Chairperson Bertha <br />L. Matthews declared a quorum present and the meeting open for the trans- <br />action of business. <br />Chairperson Bertha L. Matthews presided and the following <br />business was transacted: <br />Mr, Elwin Buchanan, Grants Director, presented to the <br />Board, the plan for an extension of a water line to the Imperial Cotton Mills <br />site on U. S. 421, from the present end of the water line near Whitin-Roberts <br />Company, for a cost estimated at $39, 800. 00. Mr. Hal T. Siler, of the <br />Chamber of Commerce, discussed the availability of sewer to that site. Re- <br />presentatives of the Imperial Cotton Mills, advised the Board that they planned <br />to begin work on the project in the near future. Mr. Rex McLeod, President <br />of the Lee County Industrial Corporation, asked the County to finance the <br />extension of such water line which he felt would be for the benefit of all citizens <br />of Lee County. Commissioner Jerry M. Almond made the motion to appropriate <br />$39, 800. 00 to extend the water line on U. S. 421 from its present end from Whitin- <br />Roberts Company to the site of the Imperial Cotton Mills proposed plant, in <br />order to foster employment within the County. Commissioner John R.
