0 <br />Bom 11 ?AGE 430 <br />RESOLUTION <br />H <br />WHEREAS, the 1983 General Assembly of the State of North Carolina <br />did authorize the commissioners of the 100 counties in North Carolina to <br />levy an additional one-half cent sales tax for local purposes, and <br />WHEREAS, the law requires forty percent of the county govern- <br />ment's share of said tax collections be expended for the capital outlay <br />needs of the public schools for the first five years of the additional <br />levy, and <br />WHEREAS, the capital outlay needs of the Lee County Schools are <br />extensive and remain unmet at the elementary and junior high level, and <br />WHEREAS, the additional one-half cent sales tax will help meet <br />the capital outlay needs of the Lee County Schools, now <br />THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lee County Board of Education <br />does fully endorse the levy of an additional one-half cent sales tax, and <br />now <br />THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Lee County Board of <br />Education respectfully requests these taxes generate an actual increase of <br />revenue for capital outlay purposes and not simply be utilized to meet <br />bonded indebtedness, or to be in lieu of current appropriations for capital <br />outlay, or in lieu of annual funding of the capital reserve as initiated <br />earlier by the Lee County Board of Commissioners, and now <br />BE IT RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be placed in the <br />minutes of the Lee County Board of Education, and copies given to the Lee <br />County Board of Commissioners and to the press. <br />Adopted this X02 a of March 1984. <br />
