Contribution in the amount of $1,000 to the WWI Monument Fundraising Committee for <br />the North Carolina National Guard Museum Foundation. <br />K. PRESENTATION OF GRANT AWARD <br />A. A representative from Duke Energy will present a grant in the amount of $30,000 to <br />support the Specialty Rescue Team Line to Lee County. <br />Indira Everett presented a grant award on behalf of Duke Energy. Each year the Duke <br />Energy Foundation has an additional focus area based on the current needs of the State. <br />This year the focus area was storm resiliency based on the storms in the recent years. $1.1 <br />million in storm resiliency grants were given to organizations in North Carolina. Numerous <br />applications were submitted. The City of Sanford received a $10,000 award for water rescue for <br />the fire department. The award for Lee County was submitted by Matt Britt for funds for rescue <br />and safety for personal protective equipment and water craft. Ms. Everett thanked the first <br />responders for what they do for citizens in Lee County. Ms. Everett congratulated the Lee <br />County Team recognizing Emergency Management Director Shane Seagroves. No action was <br />taken. <br />B. Peggy Taphorn from Temple Theater expressed gratitude on behalf of the Temple Board <br />for the continued support of the Board of Commissioners. Temple Theater is a key promoter of <br />Lee County bringing in 41,000 people annually. Temple is a key regional theater and attractant <br />for Lee County. The economic impact of Temple Theater in Lee County is $4.2 million annually. <br />Temple's outreach is to make its programs and shows as affordable as possible. The 2014 <br />implementation of NC's sales tax on admission charges is a constant source of income for the <br />county. Temple Theater will become a sister theater to Chatham County. Ms. Kaplan provided <br />the Board with a brochure promoting Temple. No action was taken. <br />Page 218 <br />
