Those present
were Commissioners Jerry M. Almond, John R. Dossenbach, Jr., Bertha L.
Matthews and Gordon A. Wicker. Commissioner John E. Matthews presided and
the following business was transacted.
The invocation was given by the Reverend Charles Huggins,
Pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on Monday April 16,
1984, were approved and ordered recorded, upon motion of Commissioner-
Jerry M. Almond, which motion was seconded by Commissioner Gordon A.
Wicker and unanimously adopted upon a vote.
Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker requested that an inquiry be made of
the Department of Transportation as to its plans concerning the bridge over the
railroad on Secondary Road 1425 in Deep River Township.
The Chair recognized the Reverend Charles Huggins, Pastor of
the Trinity Lutheran Church, who had requested time to discuss the current
future status of the Mary Margaret McLeod home. Reverend Huggins expressed
the concern of many citizens in the continued operation of the McLeod home and
presented a petition with over 600 signatures on it, expressing support for the
project. During Reverend Huggins presentation, Commissioner John E. Dotterer
joined the meeting. The Reverend Hope Morgan of the United Methodist Church
in Broadway, spoke in support of the program and indicated the willingness of her
Church to provide a facility in the Broadway area-for this program. Following the
presentation, the Chairman asked the pleasure of the Board, and Commissioner
John E. Dotterer moved that the Youth Program presently being carried on at the
McLeod home be re-funded in the coming budget at the same level at which it was
supported in last year's budget. There was no second and the Chair ruled that the
motion died for the lack of a second.
