482 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />,J Monday, June 4th, 1984 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the <br />County of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened in the Commissioners Room <br />on the second floor of the County Office Building, 200 Wicker Street, Sanford, North <br />Carolina, on Monday, June 4th, 1984, at 7:00 o'clock p. m. , in accordance with <br />a resolution previously adopted. Those present were Commissioners Jerry M. <br />Almond, John R. Dossenbach, Jr., John E. Dotterer and Gordon A. Wicker. <br />Commissioner Bertha L. Matthews was absent due to the illness of her father. <br />Vice Chairman Jerry M. Almond presided and the following business was trans- <br />acted: <br />The invocation was given by the County Attorney, K. R. Hoyle. <br />The minutes of the meeting held on May 21, 1984, were considered <br />and approved, upon motion of Commissioner John E. Dotterer, seconded by <br />Commissioner John R. Dossenbach, Jr., which motion was unanimously adopted <br />upon a vote. <br />Commissioner John R. Dossenbach, Jr. , moved that the Board <br />proceed to hold a public hearing upon the budget. Commissioner John E. Dotterer <br />seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. Vice Chairman <br />Almond declared the public hearing was open and that all interested citizens <br />would be heard concerning the budget proposal. Among the people heard, were <br />the following: Mr. Benny Hall appeared and requested that the Assistant Director's <br />position be maintained in the Parks and Recreation Department. Mr. Donn Gunder- <br />son, Director of Social Services, spoke upon the budget. Commissioner Gordon A. <br />Wicker had the Clerk read a portion of a letter concerning the activities of this <br />department. Mrs. Mary Alice Crissman, Veterans Service Officer, requested <br />that her office be maintained on a full time basis. Mr. Billy Ray Cameron spoke <br />in support of maintaining a full time Veterans Service office. Mr. Harold Guerard <br />spoke in behalf of a full time Veterans Service office. Mr. Rommie Easton, <br />Regional Service Officer, spoke in favor of a full time Veterans Service Office <br />as did Mr. Isaiah Reives. Mr. Walt Perry spoke in favor of utilizing the Service <br />Office and Veterans Service Organizations, and felt the time the Veterans Service <br />Office would be open could be cut. Mrs. Clara Faircloth complained the Veterans <br />Service Office did not handle her aid application to her satisfaction. Mr. Bill <br />Wilson, Dr. Thomas Wilson and Mr. Elmore all spoke on behalf of the Lee-Harnett <br />Mental Health Center and its budget. Superintendent William R. Johnson was <br />
