tiooK ii )~c~ <br />' soc a <br />SECTION II <br />1.0 NON-DISCRIMINATION: <br />It, is the policy of the County of Lee to foster, maintain, <br />and promote equal employment opportunity. The County shall <br />select employees on the basis of applicant's qualifications <br />and without regard to age, sex, race, color, creed, religion, <br />political affiliation or national origin except where <br />specific age, sex, or physical requirements constitute a bona <br />fide occupational, qualification necessary for job perfor- <br />mance. APPLICANTS WITH PHYSICAL HANDICAPS shall be given <br />equal consideration with other applicants for positions in <br />which their physical handicaps do not represent an unrea- <br />sonable barrier to satisfactory performance of duties. <br />Advertisements for employment shall state that Lee County <br />does not discriminate against the handicapped and advertise- <br />ments of special notices including job vacancies shall be <br />announced over at least one local radio station. <br />2.0 RESPONSIBILITY: <br />It shall be the responsibility of the County Manager to <br />insure that these policies are administered as set forth by <br />the Lee County Board of Commissioners. The County Manager <br />shall provide appropriate training to insure that department <br />heads are aware of and sensitive to the needs of the handi- <br />capped. <br />3.0 GRIEVANCE AND ADVERSE ACTION APPEAL - DISCRIMINATION: <br />Any citizen,' applicant for county employment, county <br />employee, or former county employee who has reason to believe <br />that employment, promotion, training, program accessibility, <br />or transfer was denied him or that demotion, lay-off, or <br />termination of employment was forced upon him because of his <br />age, sex, race, color, national origin, religion, creed, <br />political affiliation, or physical disability except where <br />specific age, sex, or physical requirements constitute a bona <br />fide occupational qualification ov physical barrier necessary <br />to proper and efficient administration or operation, shall <br />have the right to appeal directly to the County Board of <br />Commissioners (in the case of competitive service employ- <br />ment). An employee or applicant must appeal an alleged act <br />of discrimination within thirty (30) days of the alleged <br />discriminatory action. <br />The Lee County Board of Commissioners will consider such <br />grievances at its subsequent regularly scheduled meeting and <br />will provide a response within 10 days following the date of <br />the meeting. All actions of the Lee County Board of Commis- <br />sioners shall be final and not subject to appeal. <br />
