900( ff rACE 603 <br />motion of Commi over Jerry M. Almond, se0nded by Commis- <br />sioner John E. Dotterer, this amendment was unanimously <br />approved. <br />Commissioner wicker stated his displeasure at items <br />coming in after the budget has been adopted and the tax rate <br />set. <br />Mr. Elwin Buchanan, Grant Administrator, appeared before <br />the Board to review bids recently received on the pressure <br />sewer line from the Lee County Industrial Park to the City of <br />Sanford Wastewater Treatment Plant. Bids were taken on a 8" <br />and 10" line. A copy of the bid tabulation is attached to <br />these minutes and by this reference is made a part hereof. <br />After some discussion, Commissioner John R. Dossenbach, Jr. <br />moved to approve the low bid from J.C. Johnson Construction <br />Company in the amount of $153,172 for the 8" line or $184,470 <br />for the 10" line provided that adequate funding can be <br />arranged for the 10" line, which motion was seconded by <br />Commissioner John E. Dotterer and upon a vote was unanimously <br />adopted. <br />The Board next considered a tax refund request from Mr. <br />Sion Roberts, Jr. in the amount of $27.59. Upon motion of <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker, seconded by Commissioner Jerry <br />M. Almond, this refund was unanimously approved. <br />Commissioner John R. Dossenbach, Jr. introduced Jay <br />Lancaster to the Board who had been observing the meeting as <br />a part of his work toward obtaining his Eagle Scout Badge. <br />County Manager Walter B. Hartman, Jr., informed the <br />Board that a telephone answering device purchased by the <br />County for the Juvenile Court Counselors is in need of repair <br />and that the State has indicated that they will bear the cost <br />for repairing this piece of equipment if it was donated to <br />the State by the County. Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker made <br />a motion to approve this donation, which motion was seconded <br />by Commissioner John E. Dotterer and upon a vote was <br />unanimously adopted. <br />Chairman Bertha L. Matthews reminded the Board about the <br />Main Street meeting scheduled for Wednesday, October 17th at <br />the Sanford Municipal Building. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker also informed the Board <br />that the rural fire departments have indicated that they <br />would like to see a Fire Marshal appointed for Lee County and <br />suggested that the other board members give this some thought <br />prior to the next meeting. <br />There being no further business to come before the <br />session, the meeting was adjourned. <br />CHAIRMAN <br />
