Cox, Jr. seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously
adopted. Mr. Buchanan then presented for consideration by the
Board, a draft of a resolution requesting Lee County's 1985-86 and 1986-
87 State appropriations for Water and Sewer to be committed to Lee
County Water System, Phase I. A copy of this resolution is attached
to these minutes and by this. reference made a part hereof. The matter
was discussed, following which Commissioner Bertha L. Almond was recognized and
stated that a comment that he had made about money being wasted at
the Airport had been misinterpreted. That he did not think and did not
say that the local Airport Commission wasted money and that the state-
ment he made and the intention of his statement was that the FFA regu-
lations considered the projects at the Airport to cost more than they
normally would have. In this regard, Mr. Almond said it was his opinion
that the Airport Commission had done a good job and me mentioned the
County appointees, namely, Mr. W. M. Womble, Mr. Bob Jones and
Mr. Harold Kelly, had all rendered outstanding service. In fact, Mr.
Almond stated that the entire Commission gave to the Airport the same
interest that the owners of a private business would give and consequent-
ly, the public benefitted from the service and operation of the Airport.
The written request of Katherine C. Newbold fcr a
refund in the amount of $9. 53 and the release report for the month of
July, 1985, as prepared by the Tax Supervisor's office, were presented
to the Board. Commissioner Bertha L. Matthews moved that the refunds
and releases as recommended by the Tax Supervisor's office for the month
of July, 1985, be authorized and approved. Commissioner Raymond C.
Cox, Jr., seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted.
Mr. Nathan Crissman, Tax Collector, appeared before
the Board with a list of the Tax Payers who owned real estate and who
had not paid their taxes for the year 1984. Commissioner Raymond C.
Cox, Jr. , moved that in lieu of following the procedures set forth in N. C.
G. S. 105-374, that the Tax Collector be directed to follow the procedures
set out in N. C. G. S. 105-375. Commissioner Bertha L. Matthews
seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted.
