12 rt„E ~ 47 <br />Mr. Bill Burgess, Director of the District Health Board was introduced <br />to the members of the Board by Mr. John McPhaul. Mr. Burgess met with the <br />Board briefly and discussed the status of the Health Department. <br />Mr. Ken Cameron appeared before the Board on behalf of the <br />Jonesboro Merchants Association, seeking funds for the beautification of the <br />business district of Jonesboro. Commissioner Jerry M. Almond moved that <br />the Board appropriate the sum of $10, 000.00 for this purpose. Commissioner <br />Bertha L. Matthews seconded it. Commissioner John R. Dossenbach, Jr. <br />offered to substitute a motion to refer this matter to the Public Works Comm- <br />ission. Commissioner Raymond C. Cox, Jr, seconded the motion. The <br />Chair called for a vote on the substitute motion first and the results were as <br />follows : <br />AYE: Cox, Dossenbach, Dotterer <br />NAY: Almond and Matthews <br />The Chair ruled that the substitute motion carried by a majority vote <br />and no further action was taken on the main motion. <br />Commissioner Jerry M. Almond introduced a resolution levying a <br />one-half per cent (1/2%) additional Local Government Sales and Use Tax <br />and prescribing the method of distribution of the proceeds within Lee County, <br />a copy of which resolution is attached to these minutes and by this reference <br />made a part hereof. Commissioner Raymond C. Cox, Jr, seconded the <br />motion and upon a vote the Commissioners voted as follows: <br />AYE: Almond, Cox, Dossenbach, Dotterer, and Matthews <br />NAY: None <br />Commissioner John R. Dossenbach, Jr, was called on for a report of <br />the Public Works Committee. Commissioner Dossenbach, on behalf of the <br />committee, moved to award the contract for the Friendship Village water line <br />to the low bidder, Johnson Construction Company, in the amount of $97, 788. 00. <br />Commissioner Jerry M. Almond seconded the motion and upon a vote, it was <br />unanimously adopted. Commissioner Dossenbach, in keeping with the Public <br />Works Committee's recommendations, moved the approval of the contract between <br />Lee County and the City of Sanford, for the purchase of water for the Friendship <br />Village Subdivision. Commissioner Jerry M. Almond seconded the motion and <br />upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. Commissioner Dossenbach, in keeping <br />with the Public Works Commission's recommendations, moved that the Board <br />approve the contract with Floyd Browne Associates, Ltd. , for engineering <br />services on the Friendship Village Water line in the amount of $6, 325. 00. <br />Commissioner Jerry M. Almond seconded the motion and upon a vote it was <br />unanimously adopted. <br />
