B°°x 12 p,wJ7,2 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR THE COUNTY <br />OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, April 6, 1987 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, <br />State of North Carolina, convened in the Commissioners Room on the second floor <br />J of the County Office Building, 200 Wicker Street, Sanford, North Carolina, on <br />Monday, April 6, 1987, at 9:30 o'clock A. M. Those present were Commissioners <br />Raymond C. Cox, Jr. ; John R. Dossenbach, Jr. ; John E. Dotterer; Bertha L. <br />Matthews; and Gordon A. Wicker. The Chairman declared a quorum present and <br />the meeting open for the transaction of business. <br />Chairman John E. Dotterer presided and the following business was trans- <br />acted: <br />The invocation was given by Commissioner John R. Dossenbach, Jr. <br />Commissioner John R. Dossenbach, Jr., moved that the draft of the minutes <br />of the regular meeting held on March 23, 1987, which was submitted to the Board <br />with the agenda for this meeting be adopted as the official minutes for such meeting. <br />Commissioner Bertha L. Matthews seconded the motion and upon a vote it was <br />unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. Charles Oldham appeared before the Board and spoke in opposition to <br />allowing a strip mining operation in Chatham County, which proposes to discharge <br />its wastewater into a tributary of Deep River. After hearing Mr. Oldham's pre- <br />sentation and reviewing the materials he submitted, Commissioner John R. <br />Dossenbach, Jr. moved the adoption of the following: <br />RESOLUTION CONCERNING SURFACE COAL <br />MINING IN CHATHAM COUNTY <br />WHEREAS, the Deep River is a public water supply for <br />citizens of Chatham County and other citizens of the State of <br />North Carolina, and is a potential water supply for the citizens of <br />Lee County; and <br />WHEREAS, the Chatham Coal Company proposes to do <br />surface coal mining in Chatham County and proposes to discharge <br />mining-related wastewater to an unnamed tributary of the Deep <br />River; and <br />
