ao l2 r s 268 <br />The recommendation was that the contract be awarded to Harriss & Moore, Inc. , <br />the low bidders. This matter was discussed by the Board and Commissioner <br />Gordon A. Wicker requested that the building known as the old nurses home be <br />included in the project. <br />Commissioner John R. Dossenbach, Jr, moved that the Board approve <br />Harriss & Moore, Inc. , the low bidder for the old hospital building work, and <br />that they negotiate for a unit cost not to exceed the unit cost established in the <br />hospital bid, and if successful that the asbestos material be removed from the <br />building known as the nurses home. Commissioner Raymond C. Cox, Jr, seconded <br />the motion and upon a vote the results were as follows: <br />AYE: Commissioie rs Raymond C. Cox, Jr., John R. Dossenbach, <br />Jr. , John E. Dotterer, Bertha L. Matthews and Gordon A. Wicker. <br />NAY: None <br />The Chairman declared the motion was unanimously adopted, <br />Mr. John W. Kinney appeared before the Board on behalf of O'Brien <br />Atkins Associates, architects, and presented the bid tabulations for the general <br />construction which bids have been received on July 16, 1987, and a copy of the <br />bids received as certified by the architect are attached to these minutes and made <br />a part hereof. <br />After receiving the architect's recommendation and discussion, <br />Commissioner John R. Dossenbach, Jr. moved that the Board elect to proceed <br />on the base bid with alternates G-1, G-3 and G-5, and that the contract be <br />awarded to Centurion Construction Company in the amount of $943, 200, 00; <br />further that the contract for heating, air-conditioning, electrical and plumbing be <br />awarded to Bolton Corporation of Raleigh, with the heating and air-conditioning <br />contract being in the amount of $419, 627. 00, the electrical contract being in the <br />amount of $122, 122, 00, and the plumbing contract in the amount of $83, 085. 00; <br />and further that a contingency reserve be established in the amount of $156, 803, 00 <br />for a total of $1, 724, 837. 00, Commissioner Bertha L. Matthews seconded the motion <br />and upon a vote the results were as follows: <br />AYE: Commissioners Raymond C. Cox, Jr., John R. Dossenbach, Jr„ <br />John F. Dotterer and Bertha L. Matthews. <br />NAY: Gordon A. Wicker <br />The Chairman ruled the resolution had been adopted by a majority <br />vote. <br />The Board observed a short recess following which the following <br />business was discussed: <br />Mr. Elwin Buchanan appeared before the Board and presented for <br />its consideration a resolution with respect to the demolition and clearance policy <br />
