s <br />cos 12 ~~~E 308 <br />The Chairman ruled that the motion had been unanimously adopted <br />and declared that the meeting was open for the public for the expression of views <br />upon the subject of an occupancy tax. <br />Mr. Douglas Johnson, owner of the Palomino Motel appeared and <br />asked that the Board give consideration to business interests in Lee County in the <br />use of the civic center; that if adjoining counties do not levy such a tax, motel <br />and hotel operators would be at an economic disadvantage. At this point the <br />County Manager distributed a handout which showed that in Harnett and Moore <br />Counties such taxes have been enacted. Representative Dennis Wicker was <br />recognized and Mr. Wicker explained why he had secured such legislation and <br />the use that would be made of the funds to be derived. After all persons who had <br />been recognized who desired to speak, Commissioner Raymond C. Cox, Jr, moved <br />that the hearing be closed. Commissioner Bertha L. Matthews seconded the <br />motion and upon a vote the results were as follows: <br />AYE: Cox, Dossenbach, Matthews, Wicker and Dotterer. <br />NAY: None <br />The Chairman declared that the motion had been unanimously <br />adopted and the public hearing was closed, <br />The Chairman recognized Mr. Robert Dalrymple, Chairman of the <br />Lee County Board of Education. Mr. Dalrymple presented Mr. William R. Johnson <br />Superintendent of the Lee County Board of Education and advised the Board that <br />Mr. Johnson would address the Board on behalf of the Board of Education. <br />Mr. Johnson requested that the Board furnish to the Board of Education the <br />necessary information showing the projected funds for school construction over <br />the next ten years to aid them in completing forms to submit to the State Board of <br />Education. The Chairman thanked Mr. Johnson for his appearance and advised <br />him they would endeavor to supply the requested information by the first of <br />December. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker moved that the proper county <br />officials be authorized to accept and execute the necessary documents for a <br />grant in the amount of $568. 54 from the Carolina Power & Light Company through <br />the Triangle J Council of Government for the purchase of fans for parties <br />eligible under the policies and procedures for the Carolina Power & Light <br />Company fan project. Commissioner Raymond C. Cox, Jr, seconded the motion, <br />and upon a vote the results were as follows: <br />AYE: Cox, Dossenbach, Matthews, Wicker and Dotterer. <br />NAY: None. <br />
