BOOR 462 <br />MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />WEDNESDAY JUNE 29, 1988 <br />*:t:t:t*:t:r*+************:t*:t**:r*:r:t*****~*~**:t**x:r**:r********:t :t**:r :r x:r********:t***:t* <br />The special meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of <br />Lee, State of North Carolina, convened in the Commissioners' room on the second <br />floor of the County Office Building, 200 Wicker Street, Sanford, North Carolina, <br />on Wednesday, June 29, 1988 at 7:00 o'clock P. M. as specified in the call of <br />the meeting issued by the Chairman.Those present were: Commissioners Raymond C. <br />Cox, Jr., John R. Dossenbach, Jr., John E. Dotterer and Gordon A. Wicker. <br />Commissioner Bertha L. Matthews was out of town and unable to attend the meeting. <br />The Chairman declared a quorum present and the meeting open for the transaction <br />of business. <br />Chairman John E. Dotterer presided and the following business was <br />transacted: <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker moved that the Board proceed to hold a <br />public hearing with respect to the proposed budget for the period from July 1, <br />1988, through June 30, 1989. Commissioner John R. Dossenbach, Jr., seconded the <br />motion. Upon a vote the results were as follows: <br />AYE: Cox, Dossenbach, Wicker and Dotterer; absent Matthews <br />NAY: None <br />The Chairman ruled the Resolution had been unanimously adopted and <br />declared the meeting open for comments by members of the public. <br />Mr. Foster Neal of 2719 Lower Moncure Road was recognized and expressed <br />the opinion that the increase in taxes would be hard for people to pay. In <br />discussion with the Board, it appears that Mr. Neal owned farm land but he had <br />failed to apply for the use valuation. The Board suggested that he could obtain <br />relief by applying for the use valuation in the future. No one else spoke in <br />opposition to the proposed budget, and after a reasonable interval, Commissioner <br />Gordon A. Wicker moved that the meeting be closed and Commissioner John R. <br />Dossenbach, Jr., seconded the motion. Upon a vote the results were as follows: <br />AYE: Cox, Dossenbach, Wicker and Dotterer; absent Matthews <br />NAY: None <br />The Chairman ruled the resolution had been unanimously adopted and the <br />
