Appropriate treatment of mental illne_s is cost effective because it <br />restores productivity, reduces utiliz_tion of other health services, and <br />lessens social dependence; and <br />Whereas. 'ndividuals with grave concerns for t.eir mentally ill family members and <br />friends have joined the efforts of c._ 650,000 members of the National <br />Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMi` =o combat the unfair stigma of the <br />diseases, support great investments ir~ research, and advocate an adequate <br />continuum of care from hospital to camunity; <br />Therefore, as an expression of its concern and as a way to reduce stigma and <br />cromote understandino of the mentally 11, the LEE COUNTY BOARD OF <br />COMMISSIONERS, do hereby proclaim Occs er 2-8, 1988 as <br />MENTAL ILLNESS AWARENESS WEEK <br />and commends this observance to its citizens. <br />Adopted this 19th day of September, 1988. ;I <br />;I <br />.j <br />John E.
