689
LEE COUNTY
©000© aa0o.o ©.a
Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow
LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ITEM ABSTRACT ITEM NO. V.B.
Information
Meeting Date: November 14, 2011 XX Action Item
Consent Agenda
SUBJECT Approve Contract Amendment with Moseley Architects for Design of
a New Security Control Center and Natural Lighting Project for the Lee County Jail.
DEPARTMENT
CONTACT PERSON
Administration /Sheriff /Jail
John Crumpton
REQUEST Staff is seeking approval from the Board of Commissioners to
amend our current contract with Moseley Architects for design of a new security control center
and natural lighting project for the Lee County Jail. The contract will include design, bidding and
construction administration.
SUMMARY As was committed to the Sheriff during the budget process, the
County would review the security control center and need to replace the existing system as part of
the Basement Renovations at the Courthouse. The original estimate for the project was
$250,000. Moseley Architects originally submitted a proposal of $39,000 for this work and the
rebid and construction administration for the natural lighting project. After discussions with
Moseley and by combining these projects with the bid for the basement renovations, they agreed
to lower their cost to $28,000. The security control center is original to the Jail making the system
20 years old. Jail staff is currently having operational issues with the system. Due to the age of
the system we are having difficulty finding replacement parts and the current vendor has
recommended replacement. Due to Jail construction standards an architect/engineer has to be
involved with the placement of the new system.
BUDGET IMPACT $28,000
ATTACHMENT(S) Contract Addendum for Architectural services
PUBLIC HEARING No
PRIOR BOARD ACTION At the June 20 meeting Commissioners voted to proceed with the
full project design at the Courthouse with Moseley Architects.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve Contract Addendum with Moseley Architects as presented.
