Spivey, Director <br />REQUEST Consider Award of the OT Sloan Diving Pool Renovation Project <br />SUMMARY This project involves removal of the existing filtration pump and <br />installation of a new 15 HP filtration pump, including a new concrete base, associated piping and <br />electrical connections. This project also involves demolition of the existing skimmers and <br />installation of 13 new skimmers, 13 equalizer grates, 34 returns, re- pouring of concrete decking <br />and new waterline tile and depth markers. Sealed proposals were opened and publicly read in <br />the Gordon Wicker Room of the LCGC at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Bids were <br />received from the following pool contractors: <br />• Aquatic Resource Group (# 54165) - 8334 Pineville Matthews Rd., Charlotte, NC 28226 <br />• Gress' Inc. (NC GC License # 66456) - 437 Lower Thrift Rd., New Hill, NC 27562 <br />• Southeast Aquatics (# 69835) - 9660 Falls of Neuse Rd., Raleigh, NC 27615 <br />• Southern Pools (# 33238) - 4900 Sinus Lane, Charlotte, NC 28208 <br />BUDGET IMPACT $67,333.00 <br />ATTACHMENT(S) (1) Information Requested by Board at 10/17 meeting <br />(2) Budget Amendment <br />PUBLIC HEARING No <br />PRIOR BOARD ACTION At the October 17, 2011 Commissioners meeting, the Board tabled <br />the decision on the award and asked for additional information. <br />RECOMMENDATION The Board has options with this proposal. First, the Board could do <br />nothing and allow the Pool to re -open without the improvements. This proposed project is to <br />replace a system that has been in place since 1975. This expense is an investment to keep the <br />asset operating long term. If we decide to do nothing we could take a chance that only minor <br />repairs would be needed to reopen the pool in the spring. However, based on the cost to make <br />repairs the last two years ($45,000) and the amount of use at the pool, staff recommends <br />proceeding with the award of the OT Sloan Diving Pool Renovations Project to Aquatic Resource <br />Group, for the total amount of $67,333.00. <br />
