The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Dr. Bud Marchant, President of Central Carolina Community College presented the required <br />paperwork to appear before the Board and discuss the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Dr. Marchant <br />and Ms. Rosalind Cross gave a short overview of the program. It was stated that changes will be made <br />to the By -Laws to appoint new members for 4 -year terms from July 1" through June 30` The Board of <br />Commissioners was asked to appoint someone from the Public Employment Service representative <br />area and to extend terms of current members they have already appointed. After discussion, <br />Commissioner Womack moved to extend term limits for the following Workforce Development Board <br />members: <br />Bud Schlademan, extend term ending by two years (term now ends June 30, 2017), <br />Tony Lett, extend term ending by one year (term now ends June 30, 2017), <br />Wes McGee, extend term ending by two years (term now ends June 30, 2017), <br />Cherise Williams, extend term ending by ten months (term now ends June 30, 2017), <br />Jim Womack, extend term ending by two years (term now ends June 30, 2015) <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Hayes, Oldham, Parks, Paschal, Reives, Shook, and Womack <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Chairman Shook stated she would contact the Employment Security Commission for a <br />recommendation from that agency. A recommendation will be presented to the Board for consideration <br />at the October 3 rd meeting. <br />The Board considered appointments to the Local Firemen's Relief Fund Board. Donald <br />Andrews, Chairman of the Lee County Fire Advisory Board asked that two trustees be appointed to <br />serve on the volunteer fire departments Firemen's Relief Fund Board. Each fire department is made up <br />of three local members and two members appointed by the Board of Commissioners. Each fire <br />department will forward annual funds that are not appropriated to the North Carolina State Firemen's <br />Association. Two appointments need to be made to serve on all the volunteer fire department boards <br />and one to serve on the Cape Fear Fire Department Board. After discussion, Commissioner Shook <br />moved to reappoint Donald Andrews and herself to serve on the Fire Department Relief Fund Board <br />and Commissioner Parks to serve on the Cape Fear Board along with Commissioner Shook. Upon a <br />vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Hayes, Oldham, Parks, Paschal, Reives, Shook, and Womack <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />At this time the Board held a public hearing for the FY 2011/12 Rural Operating Assistance <br />Grant. Senior Services Director Debbie Davidson stated a public hearing is required as part of the <br />grant application. The following funding levels have been allocated to Lee County: <br />Elderly and Disabled Transportation Assistance - $67,207.00 — no local match required. <br />These funds assist clients of Lee County Senior Services, Lee County Industries, <br />
