BOOK 12 kGE 585 <br />E'01- <br />bring the premises up to code with respect to the electrical and plumbing <br />facilities, and to paint the inside of the area. The Committee also had <br />instructed Mr. Brewer of the Maintenance Department to investigate ways to <br />improve the outside appearance of the building and to replace the plate glass <br />windows. After discussion by the Board, it was resolved to consider <br />sandblasting the face of the building to remove the discoloration where <br />material had been glued to the building and to hold off replacing the plate <br />glass windows until such sandblasting work had been completed. <br />The Chairman appointed Commissioner William C. Stafford, Jr. and <br />Commissioner Bertha L. Matthews as a committee to review the applications for j <br />the position of Grants Administrator and to report their recommendations to the <br />Board. The Chairman reminded the Board that the entire Board was going to act <br />as a committee to select a County Manager and all should review the <br />applications on file with Interim County Manager Beatrice Fields. <br />Mr. Ronnie Martin, Director of Youth Services, appeared before the <br />Board and reported that the plans for the renovation of the nurses home <br />building had been approved by the Insurance Department, but Mr. Brewer was <br />reluctant to start work until the Board had authorized him to do so. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker moved that the Board give Mr. Brewer authority to <br />begin his work on the project. Commissioner Bertha L. Matthews seconded the <br />motion and upon a vote the results were as follows: <br />AYE: Dossenbach, Matthews, Stafford, Wicker and Cox <br />NAY: None <br />The Chairman ruled the resolution had been unanimously adopted. <br />Commissioner William C. Stafford, Jr. spoke on the need of a water <br />line extension program and requested that the County Planner formulate a policy <br />for consideration by the Board. Commissioner Bertha L. Matthews requested that <br />the Board address itself to the fees charged for tap-ons also. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker reported that Mr. Ed Hall had <br />complained to him that truck traffic was tearing up the rural road known as <br />Edwards Road, and requested that the Division of Highways be asked to look into <br />the matter. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker reported that Mrs. Moyle Johnson had <br />complained to him about the unsightly conditions near her home in Deep River as <br />a result of an individual operating a junk yard at an old service station. Mr. <br />Leonard Barefoot reported that steps had been taken with respect to the junked <br />vehicles and the Health Department was taking action with respect to the mobile <br />home located on the site. <br />The Board observed a short break following which Commissioner William <br />
