BOOK V FJGE 590
Commissioner wicker was asked where things stood with
the Health Department Budget and the proposed city
contribution to the Animal Control Program. Commissioner
Wicker stated that he was making progress and would have an
answer by the next meeting.
Chairman Cox then asked for a report from Commissioner
Dossenbach concerning the Old Hospital Parking Lot.
Commissioner Dossenbach presented the Board members with map
copies of the lots in question and reported that we had a bid
of $8,000 for paving each lot. The Board was informed that
Susan Suggs from the N. C. Division of Community Planning had
offered to study the parking lot situation and make a recom-
mendation. It was mentioned that the lot next to Cameron
Body Shop belongs to Lee County but is being used by Cameron
Body Shop for their employee parking and for parking of
wrecked vehicles. The pavement in that area has deteriorated
greatly. After a general discussion Commissioner Dossenbach
made a motion to put off any paving until a recommendation is
received from Susan Suggs and to direct the County Manager to
immediately direct a letter to Cameron Body Shop requesting
that they refrain from parking on the lot. Commissioner
Wicker seconded the motion and upon a vote the results were
as follows:
AYE: Dossenbach, Matthews, Stafford, Wicker, and Cox
NAY: None
The Chairman ruled that the resolution had been unani-
mously adopted.
Commissioner Wicker mentioned to the Board that he had
noticed that the lights in the old hospital building appear
to be on all the time, even at night and on weekends. He
felt that someone should be responsible for seeing that the
lights are turned off when not in use. The other Board
Members were in agreement and County Manager Fields was
instructed to check into the matter and see that it is
corrected. Commissioner Wicker also noted that the same
situation seems to be occurring at the Senior High School.
Chairman Cox asked the County Manager to check with school
authorities on that as well.
Commissioner Dossenbach informed the Board that he would
soon be attending his first meeting of the Sanford- Lee
County Airport Commission and that he would be asking for
partial compensation from them on our Grants Administrator's
salary.
Chairman Cox recognized the presence of Sharon Cheek,
Lee County Supervisor for Johnston-Lee Community Action in
the audience and advised her that the Board was still working
