}}t
s.'Q
HOW, V FiGi 621
MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING
OF
THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
FOR
THE COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 1989
The special meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the
County of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened in the Commissioners'
Room on the second floor of the County Office Building, 200 Wicker
Street, Sanford, North Carolina, in accordance with the call issued by
the Chairman. Those present were: Commissioners Albert L. Cox; John R.
Dossenbach, Jr.; Bertha L. Matthews; William C. Stafford, Jr.; and
Gordon A. Wicker. The Chairman declared a quorum present and the
meeting open for the transaction of business.
Chairman Albert L. Cox presided and the following business
was transacted:
The Chairman stated that the meeting had been called to
consider an offer to sell to the County the property formerly occupied
by 0. K. Bowl on Courtland Drive across from the Courthouse. The offer
was for the County to take an option to purchase the property at $1,000
per month with the option money applying to the purchase price. The
total purchase price was $170,000.00, but the owner would make a
contribution to the County of $20,000.00. The motion was discussed at
length. Commissioner Stafford recommended taking an option on the
property. Commissioner Dossenbach stated he was reluctant to purchase
the property until the Board received recommendations from its architect
about use of the property. Commissioner Wicker stated he favored
relocating the Courthouse and did not think it advisable to purchase the
property. Following the discussion Commissioner William C. Stafford,
Jr., moved that the Board enter into an option agreement with Lee
Enterprises, Inc., for a twelve (12) month period at a rate of $1,000.00
per month which would allow for the bowling lanes property on Courtland
Drive to be purchased for $170,000.00 of which the. owners would
contribute $20,000.00 and all option payments would apply against the
purchase price. Chairman Albert L. Cox seconded the motion and upon a
vote the results were as follows:
AYE: Stafford and Cox
NAY: Dossenbach, Matthews and Wicker
- 1 -
