e~c:< 12 ~s 722 <br />MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING <br />of <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />for <br />THE COUNT'S[ OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />/ MONDAY, MAY 1, 1989 <br />The special meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County <br />of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened in the Commissioners' Room on the <br />second floor of the county Office Building, 200 Wicker Street, Sanford, <br />North Carolina, at 7:00 o'clock P. M., May 1, 1989, the same being the <br />time, date, and place specified in the call issued by the Chairman. Those <br />present were Commissioners Albert L. Cox; John R. Dossenbach, Jr.; Bertha <br />L. Matthews; William C. Stafford, Jr.; and Gordon A. Wicker. The Chairman <br />declared a quorum present and the meeting open for the transaction of <br />business. <br />Chairman Albert L. Cox presided and the following business was <br />transacted: <br />The invocation was given by Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker. <br />The Board reviewed the draft of the minutes for the regular <br />meeting held on Monday, April 17, 1989. The Chairman asked for additions, <br />corrections, deletions or amendments to the minutes and when there were <br />none, he ruled the minutes had been approved as submitted and ordered that <br />they be recorded. <br />Sheriff Billy Bryant appeared before the Board for and on behalf <br />of the American Cancer Society and requested that each member of the Board <br />secure contributions in the amount of $200.00 per commissioner. <br />Chairman Cox brought up for consideration the method of election <br />of the Board of Commissioners and made the following statement: <br />The Board of Equalization & Review has completed hearings, and the <br />board's resolution on requests for review should be in the mail soon. I <br />want to thank the entire Board of County Commissioners for serving on <br />Equalization & Review, also Mr. Stafford who chaired this group and Ms. <br />Bullard, our Tax Assessor, and her staff for their very able assistance. <br />To preface my remarks, I want to acknowledge and thank The Sanford <br />Herald for their recent supportive editorial comment, also those <br />citizens making statements at our public hearing Mr. Stafford and " <br />-1- <br />
