BOOK 1?, pgc 752 <br />WHEREAS, the Governor's Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Among Children <br />and Youth calls for the development of a community based planning process <br />for the development of local responses to alcohol and other drug <br />problems; and <br />WHEREAS, consultation and resource materials are available to-Lee County <br />from the Governor's Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse if it establishes <br />or revitalizes a community based planning process; and <br />WHEREAS, the Drug Action Committee of Lee County is a community based <br />body that seeks to diminish substance abuse through support of prevention <br />and intervention activities; and <br />WHEREAS, the Drug Action Committee of Lee County has acted for more than <br />a year as a community based coordinating and planning body; <br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lee County Board of Commissioners that <br />the Drug Action Committee of Lee County be designated as Lee County's <br />citizen group to help coordinate substance abuse prevention and <br />intervention. <br />Commissioner Bertha L. Matthews seconded the motion and upon a vote the <br />results were as follows: <br />AYE: Dossenbach, Matthews, Stafford, Wicker and Cox <br />NAY: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been unanimously adopted. <br />Mrs. Mary B. Oates, Chairman of the Lee County Youth Commission, <br />appeared before the Board and reviewed a letter issued by the Commission on <br />May 3, 1989, to the Board of Commissioners which in effect was a response to <br />the letter of Mr. Frank Dilworth to the Board of Commissioners with respect <br />to the Youth Commission. <br />The Board observed a short recess and resumed its sitting for the <br />dispatch of business with all Commissioners present. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker reported that the Youth Commission <br />had spent the majority of funds, however, a small balance remained which <br />could be used to finish out the Youth Commission hut. The Board discussed the <br />matter and advised Mr. Wicker to take such steps as were reasonable and <br />necessary to complete the project and to report to the Board what the needs <br />were for such project. <br />Mr. Leonard Barefoot, County Planner, appeared before the Board and <br />reported that the Planning Board on May 10th, 1989, approved a proposed <br />- 5 - <br />
